Special Olympics

Transition Year students have the opportunity to partake in a Special Olympics Module ‘So Get Into It’. Students meet after school and learn about enabling people with a learning disability to fulfil their potential and ambitions and fully participate in the world around them.

This enrichment programme promotes the personal, social, educational and vocational development of pupils and helps prepare them for their role as autonomous, participative and responsible members of society. As part of this module, students register as volunteers with Special Olympics Ireland and they volunteer with local Special Olympics Clubs and act as officials at Special Olympics events.

As well as this, students organise fundraising events in aid of Special Olympics. In March 2015, Transition Year students involved in this module organised a hugely successful table quiz and raised a staggering €1,500 for local Special Olympics clubs.
